This is my latest commission, I've just finished it.
It's another image for the forthcoming album of the band Evacuate, here's the front cover: [link] The image above will appear when you open the fold-out cover of the vinyl version of that album (and visualizes the songtitle "Uploading Death, Downloading Destruction"). For that purpose I extended the background to the left and right side and added loads of images, articles and headlines about war, death and destruction around the skeleton at its desk (and made them slightly transparent). So what you see here ist just the painted part of the image that will appear, in the finished one the background is full of pictures and headlines. I used a new technique here: I painted the image as you see it in black and white with acrylics on cardboard (about 56 cm x 40 cm), with only the areas in color on which the red light from the left shines. The Background was just grey whith almost no shadow or something else. Here's the painting without computer work: [link] Then I added/changed the colors in photoshop, added shadow and light on the wall (and copied the CD - which was originally just one. The reflection on the cd under the laptop was also made in photoshop, by copying a part of the laptop, lowering the contrast, making it a bit blurry and fitting it onto the cd). So it's mixed media and I'm not sure which category fits best. Painting time: about 7 - 8 hours Computer work: about the same as painting took (And additional ca. 10 hours for searching, changing and creating images and placing them across the background for the final artwork) So what you see here took about 15 hours. Edit: here is the finished version in full size: [link] |
