Lovecrafts flying polyps by Acrylicdreams Lovecrafts flying polyps by Acrylicdreams
The scenery comes completely out of my imagination, but I tried to do the design of the polyps as close as possible to Lovecraft´s description in "The Shadow Out Of Time" (see description below).
Acrylics on cardboard, 30 cm x 35 cm (and about 20 hours of work)

Here´s the description:
„The basis of the fear was a horrible elder race of half-polypous, utterly alien entities which had come through space from immeasurably distant universes and had dominated the earth and three other solar planets about 600 million years ago....
...There were veiled suggestions of a monstrous plasticity, and of temporary lapses of visibility, while other fragmentary whispers referred to their control and military use of great winds. Singular whistling noises, and colossal footprints made up of five circular toe marks, seemed also to be associated with them.“

Well, concerning the "footprints" I´ve created a very loose own interpretation of that (but just think of floating alien polyps with feet with 5 toes - would be rediculous, I think :D)

Look at that polyp. It's... majestic. Such unopposed grace...

Hi. I run a magazine called Surreal Grotesque and for October we are doing a tribute to Lovecraft issue. I love your art and I was wondering if you would let us use some of your pictures for that issue. All credit would remain with you and I could run a small bio. You can see the magazine here: www.surrealgrotesque.com. We are legit and also have a book on Amazon called: Aliens, Sex and Sociopaths. Unfortunately I can’t pay for art right now, all I can offer is exposure, we do have over 1000 fans on Facebook. Thank you for your time. Let me know what you think or email me at Surrealgrotesque77@hotmail.com.

This is another one of the best Polyp renditions I have ever seen! I love how the lower tentacles have a transparent look to them!

No, your footprint idea is marvelous!
Due the description of these horrors, I'd never would have illustradet 'em with those "plumm legs". Perhaps 'cos I surely can't tell witch end is the upper/lower end and that they levitate all the time...
BUT those "legs" fit well!
And it's dam fine acrylic painting too! =_0

I agree, it´s not easy to paint totally out of your imagination (and, of course, you only can do that in a quite realistic/naturalistic way if you have painted things from references before).
I mostly paint from my imagination, but when it comes to painting people, I almost always take a photo for reference. (I also sometimes do this with realistic-looking landscapes, or some studies about reflecting objects, for example)
